If you wake up to the beauties of the planet…

If you wake up to the beauties of the planet, you are already a buddha. – Thich Nhat Hanh

October was rich from beginning to end: sacred rituals and retreats; welcome visits from colleagues and friends; new trails discovered and boundless beauty, large and small, everywhere you turned. The thinning of the cosmic veil, the shift in light and time, brings the turning season into focus if you’re willing to be open and receive. This in-between time is perfect for closing out the old and preparing for the new. For planting seeds that will sprout in the coming year, serving and supporting creative visions of the spirit, opening the heart and freeing the boundless imagination within.

Tune in with the cycles of nature. The human-made manipulations of calendar, clock and cultural churnings are distractions. Lay on the earth–learn how to stay grounded. Hug a tree–feel the core strength that allows her to stand tall in a storm. Dip your hand into the water–learn how to go with the flow. Watch clouds–how they race with the wind, laughing. Study moss, lichen, barnacles–witness symbiotic relations. Be mystified by sunlight creating a shadow across the sky from a tendril of steam. See how happy holly leaves are–reflecting the light of the sun. On a clear night, listen to the great horned owl–marvel with them at the milky way’s dazzling display. Wake up to the beauties of the planet. Be a buddha.
